How the Ulkaa Edu Rank works

Overview

Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur is a public engineering university in the Bhawal area of Gazipur District, about 40 kilometres north of Dhaka and 3 kilometres north of Gazipur city. It became a university in September 2003 and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

Where it stands

  • Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027: position 25 among Bangladeshi universities, computed from the published methodology.
  • QS Asia University Rankings 2026: 486, which is 15th nationally in that edition.

The research data stored by Ulkaa shows 370 indexed works in 2025 and 1,372 over the five years to 2025, with 23,418 citations in that window, or about 17.1 per work. The h-index is stored as 130 for 2026, and about 38 percent of recent works have an international co-author (0.3838 in 2025). The 2023 record shows 977 new students admitted. Ulkaa lists 14 programmes for the 2027 edition.

The official site is duet.ac.bd.

DUET began in 1980 as the College of Engineering in Tejgaon, Dhaka, under the University of Dhaka. It was renamed Dhaka Engineering College and moved to Gazipur in 1983. In 1986 it became the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Dhaka, and in September 2003 it received its present status as Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur.

The former names are therefore Dhaka Engineering College and Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka. Its development tracks the wider history of engineering education in Bangladesh, where institutes created in the 1980s were later turned into specialised universities.

The main campus covers 23.42 acres, with a second campus of 13 acres.

Admission

DUET is a public university and admission is selective: the Wikipedia entry reports that only about the top 5 percent of candidates are accepted. The university holds its own admission process, and the circular sets eligibility, the application window and the test details.

Because DUET has had a diploma-based route into its engineering and architecture bachelor's programmes, read the current circular carefully on duet.ac.bd to see which qualifications qualify for each programme this year.

Ulkaa does not state tuition figures on this page. Fee information is handled separately with sourced current-year data.

Programs

DUET teaches through four faculties with 16 departments and three specialised institutes, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, including PhD programmes.

The programmes Ulkaa lists include Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (with an MSc Engg./M.Engg. and a PhD in CSE), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, and Mathematics.

Publication data for 2025 shows engineering as the leading field (119 works), followed by computer science (36) and medicine and health (18). That fits an engineering university whose research is concentrated in engineering departments.

The Wikipedia entry notes that DUET has historically admitted diploma-in-engineering holders to its bachelor's programmes in engineering and architecture, and applicants should confirm the current eligibility rules in the official admission circular.

Research and campus life

The Gazipur campus lies on the Bhawal side of Gazipur, about 20 kilometres from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. It has dormitories, sports facilities, a library and a medical centre, so most students live on or near campus.

Because it is outside the city, campus life leans on halls, workshops, laboratories and sports fields. Engineering students spend much of their time in departmental labs and project work, and the campus is a short distance from the industrial belt around Gazipur.

For current clubs, events and facilities, check the official site, as these change each year.
