International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) is a private university in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Rankings and data
- THE World University Rankings 2027: band 1401-1600.
- QS Asia University Rankings 2026: band 1201-1300.
- Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027: band 31-40 among universities. This band is computed from the published Ulkaa methodology.
UGC-linked data stored by Ulkaa shows 9,903 students, 485 teachers (108 of them with a PhD) and 4,682 new admissions in 2023. Six programmes are listed for 2027, and four programmes were counted as accredited in 2026: two by BAETE, one by BAR and one by the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh.
These figures describe a mid-sized, teaching-focused private university with a large first-year intake. Compare them against the other institutions on Ulkaa before you decide, and read the methodology page to see what each indicator measures.
The university began in 1995 as Islamic University Chittagong, founded by the Islamic University Chittagong Trust. In 2000 it took its present name, International Islamic University Chittagong. It operates under the Private University Act and is recognised by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.
The Kumira campus covers about 40 acres in a hilly area. Over the years the university grew from a small set of departments into six faculties, which now cover science and engineering, business, law, arts, social sciences and Shari'ah and Islamic studies.
Before the name change, the institution was known as Islamic University Chittagong. If you find older documents, certificates or news reports under that name, they refer to the same university.
Admission
Admission is handled by the university itself, and the details are announced before each semester. Applicants generally choose a faculty and department, apply through the university's admission process and meet the minimum academic requirements set for the programme. The requirements for engineering, law and pharmacy differ from those for business or humanities.
Ulkaa does not state tuition or fee figures here. Ask the admission office for the current fee schedule, any scholarship or waiver rules and the dates of the next intake.
Before applying, read the programme page, check whether the programme is accredited, and confirm the credit and duration details. If you hold a result from a foreign board, ask about equivalence in advance. Official website: http://www.iiuc.ac.bd

Research and campus life
The campus is away from the city, so most of the day-to-day life centres on the Kumira site. The setting is hilly, and the campus lies beside the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
Because the campus is about 22 km from the city centre, transport planning matters. New students usually ask about the university bus service, nearby housing and class schedules before they commit. Ask the university directly about hostel and transport arrangements, as these change over time.
With roughly ten thousand students in 2023, the campus is large enough to support clubs, cultural events and student societies, though the exact list varies by year. The official website and student pages are the reliable place to check what is running now.
