About the QS World University Rankings 2024

QS Quacquarelli Symonds published the QS World University Rankings 2024 on 27 June 2023. On Ulkaa Campus the edition records 3 Bangladeshi institutions (2 public and 1 private). University of Dhaka is the highest-placed Bangladeshi institution at 691-700.

This edition is recorded in part. Ulkaa Campus lists the Bangladeshi institutions it has been able to verify against the publisher's table so far, so the count of 3 should be read as a minimum and the publisher's full table may include more Bangladeshi names. Positions among the listed institutions are still computed only from the entries shown here.

Who appears and where

The leading entries in this edition are University of Dhaka (691-700), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (801-850) and North South University (851-900). For readers who search by name, that puts the University of Dhaka at 691-700, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology at 801-850 and North South University at 851-900.

In a world table the rank is a position among universities from every country that the publisher includes, so even the best Bangladeshi position is a long way from the first page of the table. For that reason the national position, counted only among Bangladeshi institutions on Ulkaa Campus, is the more useful number when comparing local universities with one another.

Movement

This is the earliest edition of the table recorded on Ulkaa Campus, so there is no earlier edition to compare it with.

Reading ranks and bands

A rank such as 600 is a single position. A band such as 1001-1200 means the publisher grouped several institutions together and did not order them inside the band, so two institutions in the same band are tied. A value ending in a plus sign, for example 1401+, means the institution is in the last published band. Ulkaa Campus shows the rank exactly as the publisher printed it and never converts a band into a single number.

What QS measures

QS builds the World University Rankings from nine indicators. Academic reputation carries 30 percent and employer reputation 15 percent; both come from QS's annual surveys of academics and graduate employers. Citations per faculty carry 20 percent, faculty-student ratio 10 percent, and employment outcomes, international research network, international faculty ratio, international student ratio and sustainability 5 percent each. QS groups these into five lenses: research and discovery, employability and outcomes, learning experience, global engagement and sustainability. The weights above are the ones QS lists on its methodology page for the 2027 edition; QS introduced this indicator set with its 2024 edition. Two things follow for readers in Bangladesh. First, about half of the score rests on reputation surveys, so a university's visibility among overseas academics and employers matters as much as its own output. Second, citations per faculty is a ratio, so a large institution with few researchers per student is measured against a small, research-heavy one on the same scale.

Summary

The QS World University Rankings 2024 records 3 Bangladeshi institutions. University of Dhaka is the highest-placed Bangladeshi institution at 691-700.

The publisher is QS Quacquarelli Symonds, and its methodology page is https://www.topuniversities.com/world-university-rankings/methodology. The table here is reproduced for reference as one rank per institution; the scores, sub-scores and full global table belong to the publisher. Ulkaa Campus is not affiliated with QS Quacquarelli Symonds. For admission decisions, a rank is only one input. Subject strength, location, the programmes offered and the institution's own admission notices matter more for most applicants.
