Research and campus life
JnU has a large publication record for its size. OpenAlex lists 3,061 works linked to the university over the five years to 2025, with 26,954 citations and 8.81 citations per work. The 2026 h-index is 117.
Yearly output rose from 572 works in 2023 to 689 in 2024 and 734 in 2025. In 2025 the largest subject counts were medicine (317 works), engineering (264), business (251) and computer science (160). About 52% of its 2025 works had an international co-author.
These figures come from one open index and combine all authors with a JnU affiliation, including joint papers with larger institutions abroad.
The two-year mean citedness in 2026 is 3.78. The five-year figure for citations per work was 11.52 in the window ending 2024, so the 2025 figure of 8.81 is lower; a quick rise in recent output can pull the average down.
The campus is an urban one, set in the crowded riverside district of Sadarghat.
Residential seats are limited. The first hall opened in 2022 for female students, and the new Keraniganj campus is intended to give the university more room, including more halls. Until that move, students from outside Dhaka should ask the university about hall places and plan for private housing nearby.
