How the Ulkaa Edu Rank works

Overview

Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) is a public university at Sonapur in Noakhali District, about 8 kilometres southwest of Maijdee. It started teaching in 2006 and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. It was the 27th public university set up in the country and the fifth science and technology university.

Where it stands

  • Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027: position 23 among Bangladeshi universities, computed from the published methodology.
  • THE World University Rankings 2027: band 1401-1600, which is 17th among Bangladeshi institutions in that edition.
  • QS Asia University Rankings 2026: band 851-900, 30th nationally.
  • THE Asia University Rankings 2026: band 601-800, 13th nationally.

The research data stored by Ulkaa shows 837 indexed works in 2025 and 3,763 over the five years to 2025, with 43,801 citations in that window and an h-index of 124 for 2026. About 43 percent of recent works have an international co-author (0.4325 in 2025). One pharmacy programme held professional accreditation in 2026. Ulkaa lists 12 programmes for the 2027 edition.

The official site is nstu.edu.bd.

The enabling legislation for NSTU was passed in 2001. The foundation stone was laid on 11 October 2003, and academic work began on 22 June 2006. The university has never had another official name, so there is no former name to record.

The campus covers 101 acres at Sonapur. The university describes itself as the fifth science and technology university in Bangladesh and the 27th public university. Since 2006 it has grown from a few departments to seven faculties and two institutes, with about 6,400 students in one recent count.

The long gap between the law, the foundation stone and the first classes is a common story among new public universities in Bangladesh, where land, buildings and staffing had to be arranged before teaching could start.

Admission

NSTU is a public university, so undergraduate seats are competitive and filled through an admission process announced by the university each cycle. The circular sets eligibility, the application window, the unit or faculty structure and the test details, so read the current notice on nstu.edu.bd before you apply.

Check the subject and GPA conditions for your chosen department, because engineering, science, business and humanities units can have different rules. Seats are allocated by merit as set out in the circular.

Ulkaa does not state tuition figures on this page. Fee information is handled separately with sourced current-year data.

Programs

NSTU's seven faculties and two institutes cover engineering, sciences, biological sciences, social sciences and humanities, business administration, education and law. Programmes are offered at bachelor's and master's level.

The departments Ulkaa lists include Agriculture, Business Administration, Computer Science and Telecommunication Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Economics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, English, Applied Mathematics, Microbiology, Statistics and Pharmacy, including the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm). The pharmacy programme held accreditation from the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh in 2026.

Publication data for 2025 shows work in medicine and health first (462 works), then business (304), computer science (243) and engineering (167). That spread reflects a university with both applied science and social science departments rather than a single specialism.

Research and campus life

The Sonapur campus is a green, mostly residential site of 101 acres outside Noakhali town, so students tend to live in halls or nearby rented rooms and spend most of the week on campus. With roughly 5,300 undergraduates and about 2,000 postgraduates reported in one recent count, it is a mid-sized public campus.

Departments run their own societies and academic events, and the usual public-university mix of cultural, sports and debate clubs operates across the campus. Check the official website for the current list of halls, clubs and facilities, since these change with each academic year.

Because the campus is outside the town centre, travel between Sonapur and Maijdee is part of daily life for those living off campus.
