About the QS Asia University Rankings 2024
QS Quacquarelli Symonds published the QS Asia University Rankings 2024 on 9 November 2023. On Ulkaa Campus the edition records 4 Bangladeshi institutions (2 public and 2 private). University of Dhaka is the highest-placed Bangladeshi institution at 140.
This edition is recorded in part. Ulkaa Campus lists the Bangladeshi institutions it has been able to verify against the publisher's table so far, so the count of 4 should be read as a minimum and the publisher's full table may include more Bangladeshi names. Positions among the listed institutions are still computed only from the entries shown here.
Who appears and where
The leading entries in this edition are University of Dhaka (140), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (187), North South University (191) and BRAC University (281-290). For readers who search by name, that puts the University of Dhaka at 140, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology at 187 and North South University at 191.
In an Asia table the rank is a position among universities across the continent, so the best Bangladeshi positions sit in the hundreds. The national position, counted only among Bangladeshi institutions on Ulkaa Campus, is the more useful number when comparing local universities with one another.
Movement
This is the earliest edition of the table recorded on Ulkaa Campus, so there is no earlier edition to compare it with.
Reading ranks and bands
A rank such as 600 is a single position. A band such as 1001-1200 means the publisher grouped several institutions together and did not order them inside the band, so two institutions in the same band are tied. A value ending in a plus sign, for example 1401+, means the institution is in the last published band. Ulkaa Campus shows the rank exactly as the publisher printed it and never converts a band into a single number.
What QS Asia measures
QS Asia University Rankings use a set of indicators close to the world table but tuned to the region. Academic reputation carries 30 percent and employer reputation 20 percent. Faculty-student ratio, international research network and citations per paper carry 10 percent each. Papers per faculty and staff with a PhD carry 5 percent each, and four internationalisation measures, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange students and outbound exchange students, carry 2.5 percent each. These are the weights QS lists for its Asia table. Compared with the world ranking, the Asia table gives more room to staff qualifications and student exchange, and it compares universities only with others in Asia, which is why Bangladeshi institutions can sit in the low hundreds here while appearing in a much lower band in the world table. A rank in one table cannot be converted into a rank in the other.
